Warrick Stock, known as DJ Warras or the Shady Lurker, will leave 5FM at the end of this month.
A close associate of the DJ confirmed the news on Friday.
“He felt the station was not giving him the growth he desired,” said the friend.
“He’s also concentrating heavily on his TV work, and has schedule clashes.”
The DJ confirmed he was doing more TV work, including The Man Cave launched this week.
The show will air on SABC3 next Sunday.
But he neither denied nor confirmed leaving the station.
“Contract details are something that management decides, and I am not allowed to discuss this. Speak to my boss,” said the DJ.
“What I can say is that I thoroughly enjoyed working with the resigned producer, Catherine Grenfell, who did her last show on Thursday.
“Speaking to all those legends, including Gareth Cliff, Mark Pilgrim and Derrick “The Bandit” Richardson, was something I will cherish forever.”
But 5FM station manager Justine Cullinan denied DJ Warras had not renewed his contract.
“Our presenters contracts are in place for the next two years.
“But that does not mean they are binding as people can leave at any time, as did Poppy Ntshongwana last year,” said Cullinan.
“Right now, we are discussing rates, and, as far as he is concerned, we are still in discussions. He will be on air tomorrow.”
The KwaZulu-Natal-born DJ joined the station two years ago. The 30-year-old became a household name on YFM, a radio station he joined in 2008.
The co-presenter to Tumi Vorster on the show The 5th Element from 7pm to 10pm, will also remain a presenter on the SABC1 music show, LiveAmp.
