ANCYL president Collen Maine says he cannot be compared to Julius Malema because he is in the league of Peter Mokaba.
“I don’t understand why people want to compare me with that Seshego boy. I am in the league of president Peter Mokaba. Julius Malema did nothing for the youth of South Africa when he was the president. The Youth League was almost dead during his tenure,” said Maine.
It is widely reported that Maine does not enjoy the support former ANCYL presidents used to enjoy. This is because they believe he is not fit to lead the organisation as he is constantly engaging in matters they deem are of no interest to the youth.
Youth league members charge that Maine did not inspire confidence and had turned the league into “a political lull and another extension of the faction of the ANC’s so-called Premier League”
Most analysts say Maine is not loved by majority of ANCYL members because he lacks the traditional ANCYL militancy and radicalism.
Maine claims the criticism against him is born out of jealousy. “People are just jealous. ANCYL is under great leadership. We are fixing what Julius Malema and his cohorts messed. We inherited a divided ANCYL and it took us only few months to fix it. I am a better leader than Julius and Floyd combined,” charged Maine.
