Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane says the country will regress in the same way Zimbabwe has if the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is elected into power.
Maimane addressed a DA rally in Khayelitsha yesterday, where he told the crowd, voting for the African National Congress (ANC), means supporting corruption, while a vote for the EFF means chaos.
He promised that his party will slash unemployment rates and stop losses of billions of rand through irregular and wasteful expenditure.
Maimane has slammed both the ANC and the EFF for supporting Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s regime.
He said the neighbouring country’s economy is in a meltdown and the EFF wants to recreate the same in South Africa: “And they’ve got nothing really substantive to offer.”
Maimane claims the EFF’s policies will scare off investors, which will snap any chances of economic growth and job creation.
He says over the next five years, a DA-led City of Cape Town will work on further reducing the city’s 21.7 percent employment rate and improve service delivery.
MUNICIPALITY WAS IN A MESS
Maimane told the crowd the municipality was in a mess when the party took over in 2006, but it has managed to turn it around in a decade.
Maimane says under the ANC, none of the metro’s received clean audits while key posts were left vacant.
He claims the DA-led City of Cape Town offers a generous package of free basic services to residents and has successfully delivered an integrated transport system.
