After months of sidestepping questions about his relationship status, rapper Nasty C reveals in a heartfelt confession that he is gay.
“I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man,” said Nasty C, 20. “I am very blessed to be who I am.”
He said his sister, who he lives with, inspired him to be true to himself.
“To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that i was born with,” Nasty C said. “These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn’t even know existed.”
Nasty C also said he has also met with Somizi a few times and meeting up with Somizi these few times has changed his life for the better. “I’m so happy!” he said. Nasty C also added that ever since he accepted his sexuality. “Everything he does, from smiling to crying, feels like a blessing. Being this free feels amazing. This has been the most spiritual moment in my life.”
After Nasty C’s announcement, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) issued a statement in support of the rapper.
“When someone like Nasty C comes out, hundreds of millions of people now have a cultural connection with an artist, a celebrity and, perhaps most importantly, a gay role model to many,” said Somizi, also a member of LGBTI. “His decision to model this kind of openness and honesty can lead to greater acceptance for countless gay people in South Africa, and the rest of Africa.”
